As TV-tracking app TV Time shuts down, its founder builds Bingers, a new home for fans

TV Time, the widely used app for tracking TV shows and movies, faces shutdown despite a significant user outcry, with over 25,000 petitioning to keep it alive. In a twist of fate, one of its original creators, Antonio Pinto, is stepping up to introduce a new platform named Bingers. This upcoming app aims to recapture the essence of TV Time while also addressing its shortcomings that troubled users over the years. Bingers is designed to provide a sanctuary for TV Time’s loyal users, giving them a place to continue their discussions and interactions regarding favorite episodes, something that many competing apps fail to offer. According to Appfigures, TV Time has amassed over 26.4 million installations, suggesting a strong potential user base for the new app’s community. Pinto, who sold TV Time—originally TVShow Time—to Whip Media in 2016, expressed his disappointment upon learning about the app's impending closure as Whip Media pivoted towards AI development. In a heartfelt blog post on the Bingers website, he reflected on the bonds formed within the community and his commitment to providing a new platform for them. "I wanted to rebuild all TV Time's great features, but also fix everything that always bothered me," Pinto shared. One of the major improvements in Bingers will be its enhanced performance, addressing the sluggish load times that plagued TV Time. Pinto highlighted that high server costs were a significant factor contributing to the original app's demise, with the premium subscription plan covering only a fraction of those expenses. In contrast, Bingers is being built with cost-efficiency in mind, allowing for faster responses even during peak usage when millions are accessing the app simultaneously. The new app is expected to launch on both the App Store and Google Play by the end of July 2026. In the meantime, the Bingers website is open for user sign-ups to join a waitlist, ensuring they are notified when the app becomes available. Additionally, Bingers will enable users to import their TV Time archives using a GDPR-compliant export tool, preserving their viewing history and community comments for the new platform. The archive import feature is already operational on the Bingers website, making it easier for users to transition when the app launches.
