Framework has consistently impressed with its product launches, and the latest updates are no exception. At the forefront of these announcements is an upgraded motherboard featuring Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 processors. This new component can be integrated into the existing Framework Laptop 13 or purchased alongside the newly introduced Framework Laptop 13 Pro. In addition to the motherboard, the company is rolling out enhanced screens, keyboards, and various components aimed at addressing user feedback and missing features. This time, however, Framework is placing a stronger emphasis on its commitment to Linux support. Their teaser campaign playfully encouraged users to ‘follow the white penguin,’ a nod to both Linux culture and a cinematic reference. Historically, Framework has been supportive of various Linux distributions, but the Laptop 13 Pro marks a significant milestone as it becomes the first pre-built laptop available with a factory-installed Linux system. Notably, this model is also Framework’s inaugural Ubuntu Certified device. CEO Nirav Patel is positioning the Laptop 13 Pro as the equivalent of a 'MacBook Pro for Linux users,' which highlights the company's ambition to cater to this niche market. In a recent conversation, Patel shared insights about the new products and addressed challenges related to RAM and storage shortages. He pointed out that while Linux usage among the general population remains around 3 to 4 percent, Framework’s user base leans heavily towards more technically inclined individuals. "Surveys indicate that on the Framework Laptop 13, Linux users slightly outnumber Windows users, with a ratio of about 55 to 45," Patel stated. This trend varies across their product range, with the Framework Laptop 16 showing a stronger Windows presence.
