Framework has been making waves in the tech world, especially with its innovative line of modular laptops. This year alone, the company has unveiled several new models, including the Framework Laptop 13 equipped with Ryzen AI processors and the new Framework Laptop 12. Just last week, they hinted at a significant announcement, and now it's official: the Framework Laptop 16 is receiving its first major upgrade. This revamped version of the Framework Laptop 16, which serves as both a gaming laptop and a mobile workstation, will now feature Ryzen AI processors and upgraded integrated Radeon GPUs. Notably, it introduces a new graphics module that includes Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5070. This module is designed to be fully compatible with the original Laptop 16, making it an exciting option for those looking to enhance their existing systems. Preorders for the upgraded laptop begin today, starting at $1,499 for a DIY Edition that comes without RAM, storage, an operating system, or Expansion Cards. This marks a $100 increase from the initial price of the original Laptop 16. The first units are expected to ship in November. While Framework has consistently updated the Laptop 13, this marks a significant hardware update for the Laptop 16. As it approaches its two-year anniversary, it’s clear that Framework is committed to keeping its offerings current and competitive. The previous Ryzen 7 7840HS version will still be available at a new starting price of $1,299 for the DIY edition, while the Ryzen 9 7940HS model will remain in stock until sold out. The new RTX 5070 graphics module boasts a redesigned heatsink and fan system, along with an extra USB-C port that allows for both display output and power input, potentially increasing the versatility of the device. Alongside these enhancements, the default power supply for the updated Framework Laptop 16 will increase to 240 W, up from the previous 180 W, to accommodate the higher power requirements of the new components.
