Tensions are escalating in Devanahalli, Bengaluru Rural district, as the Koyira Gram Panchayat confronts Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Pvt. Ltd. The conflict centers around allegations of unpaid taxes, breaches of local construction regulations, and a lack of job opportunities for residents. The Gram Panchayat has formally notified Foxconn, demanding the submission of essential documentation. This includes approved building plans, construction licenses, and occupancy certificates for their facilities located in Doddagollahalli and Aruvanahalli villages, which cover an extensive area of 5.33 lakh square metres. Officials claim that while operations have commenced, only vacant site information has been provided by the company. Community representatives express frustration, stating that despite repeated communications and meetings, Foxconn has not hired locals, opting instead to recruit external candidates after interviewing residents. Additionally, they point out that Foxconn has failed to contribute to local taxation, unlike other businesses, including the nearby international airport. The Panchayat has warned of potential legal repercussions under the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act if Foxconn does not comply within seven days. Furthermore, residents are organizing a large-scale protest on the 7th, with thousands expected to join from various panchayats if their grievances remain unaddressed.
