After successfully securing $3.2 million in seed funding and acquiring a roster of paying customers, Tyler Maran and Anna Pojawis faced a pivotal decision regarding their startup, OmniAI. Despite initial success, the duo began to doubt whether their vision for OmniAI, which utilized AI to analyze business data, was expansive enough to meet their ambitious goals. Maran reflected on this transformative moment, stating, "We really didn't see where the full $10 billion, $100 billion vision was here." In a bold move, the founders—both alumni of the renowned Y Combinator accelerator—made the tough choice to dismantle OmniAI. Over the past ten months, they have channeled their efforts into developing a new venture, Monumint, a banking AI agent startup. This pivot came with its own set of challenges, including the loss of revenue from their previous product. Following the establishment of Monumint and the acquisition of early customers, Maran and Pojawis presented a new pitch deck to their existing investors late last year. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with investors, especially those with a background in financial services, offering valuable introductions that could lead to significant partnerships, including potential large customers for Monumint. Monumint signifies a return to their roots for Maran and Pojawis, who began their careers as commercial bankers at CIBC, where they first met nearly a decade ago during an analyst training program. Both always harbored entrepreneurial ambitions and reconnected after pursuing separate paths in YC-backed software startups. The startup specializes in creating conversational AI agents tailored for banks, credit unions, and lenders. These agents are designed to field inquiries, gather information, and manage intricate processes such as coordinating loan applications with multiple parties and updating beneficiaries. Currently, Monumint boasts 20 paying customers, including small-business lenders like Lendio and ByzFunder, along with several FDIC-insured banks like Community Bank. With a team of six employees, Monumint aims to leverage its funding to expand its engineering and sales workforce, paving the way for future growth.
