Epic Games is grappling with significant server issues for its immensely popular battle royale game, Fortnite, following the rollout of the v36.20 update. Players worldwide have reported widespread connectivity problems, leading to an extended downtime that has left many frustrated. On Monday, the company provided an update via its official Fortnite Status account on X, noting that the downtime commenced at 4 AM ET, with matchmaking ceasing shortly before. Initially anticipated as a standard maintenance period, the situation escalated as players began experiencing unexpected matchmaking challenges. Acknowledging the growing concerns, Fortnite Status communicated that they were aware of the matchmaking difficulties affecting users. "We’re working on a fix and will update this thread once this has been resolved," they stated, indicating their commitment to rectifying the issues as swiftly as possible. By Tuesday evening, Epic Games announced that the downtime would be prolonged due to an unforeseen problem uncovered during offline testing. The team reassured players, saying, "We’re extending downtime while we work to resolve an issue discovered during offline checks. We'll do our best to get Fortnite servers online ASAP. Keep an eye on this thread for any future updates." The outage has prompted considerable frustration among the gaming community. According to Downdetector, over 800 players in the United States reported issues, with 80 percent of them experiencing server connection troubles. Additionally, 12 percent faced login difficulties, while 7 percent encountered various gameplay interruptions. As of now, Epic Games has not provided a clear timeline for when the servers will be fully operational again. Players are encouraged to keep an eye on the Fortnite Status account for real-time updates as the company works diligently to restore services.
