As Formula E approaches the conclusion of its current technical regulations, the racing series is gearing up for an exciting transformation. The introduction of the GEN4 single-seater electric vehicle in the upcoming season marks a significant leap in performance, with power levels that can rival those of Formula 1 cars, albeit with a heavier build and reduced downforce. The newly released calendar for the 2026–2027 season, featuring 21 races across 13 cities, highlights a shift towards more traditional racing circuits to accommodate the increased speeds of the GEN4 car. Kicking off in Saudi Arabia with a double-header on December 18 and 19, this will be the only event for the series in 2026. The momentum continues into 2027 with a series of races at renowned Formula 1 venues in North America, starting with Mexico on January 16, followed by the Circuit of the Americas in Texas on February 7, and concluding in Miami on February 20. The inclusion of the Circuit of the Americas marks a significant milestone as it becomes the seventh U.S. location for Formula E since 2015, joining venues such as the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Long Beach, Brooklyn, Portland, Homestead-Miami, and the Hard Rock Stadium. Notably, the COTA event will utilize a shorter circuit layout similar to those used by NASCAR, avoiding direct lap-time comparisons with F1. While the series retains some popular city center tracks, such as the Berlin-Tempelhof and Monaco e-Prix, it signals a departure from its original premise of racing in urban environments. London’s ExCel Arena will be replaced by the historic Brands Hatch circuit in Kent for the May race, where a unique layout is anticipated, reminiscent of the slight modifications made to the Monaco track. As Formula E evolves, the shift towards traditional racetracks reflects the series' commitment to adapting to the thrilling capabilities of its next-generation vehicles, promising fans an exhilarating racing experience in the seasons to come.
