In a bold move to secure its position in the European market, Ford CEO Jim Farley has openly declared that the company is facing a critical battle for survival against increasing competition, particularly from Chinese manufacturers. To combat this challenge, Ford has forged a strategic partnership with the French automotive giant Renault Group. On Tuesday, the two companies unveiled plans to introduce two budget-friendly Ford-branded electric vehicles (EVs) by 2028. Ford will spearhead the design process, while Renault will handle assembly operations at its facility located in northern France. The new EVs will utilize Renault's advanced technology platform known as Ampere. Additionally, Ford and Renault have agreed to consider collaborating on the production of light commercial vehicles. This partnership marks a significant step in Ford's ongoing efforts to adapt and thrive within the European automotive landscape, which is becoming increasingly saturated with more affordable options from brands like BYD and SAIC Motor. Farley emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "As an American company, we view Europe as the frontline in the global transformation of our industry. How we compete here — through innovation, partnerships, and investment — will set the standard for the future. We are dedicated to a sustainable and prosperous future in Europe, but achieving that requires us to act with unprecedented speed and efficiency."
