Jim Cramer says ask yourself this question when looking for AI winners to buy

Investors are advised to shift their attention from past stock performances to potential future gains, according to CNBC's Jim Cramer. During a recent segment of "Mad Money," Cramer emphasized the importance of considering a stock's upside rather than fixating on its previous highs. As artificial intelligence and data center stocks continue to surge, Cramer highlighted a common pitfall: the belief that a stock is too expensive simply because it has already risen dramatically. "If you think a stock is poised for further growth, don't let its past performance deter you from making a purchase," he urged. Cramer pointed to Corning, a significant holding in the CNBC Investing Club, as a prime example. After his visit to the company's Kentucky plant, he was convinced by CEO Wendell Weeks' insights on the advantages of fiber optics over copper in data centers, particularly regarding speed and durability. Though Corning's stock had climbed from around $52 to $77, Cramer recognized the long-term potential and decided to invest, leading to substantial returns as the stock doubled post-investment. Similarly, Cramer discussed his experience with Arm Holdings. After the company introduced its first in-house designed CPU, Cramer saw the potential for growth linked to the increasing demand for AI technology in data centers. Despite the stock's rise from $135 to $173 before he purchased shares, he chose to focus on the future trajectory of the company. Arm's stock has since surpassed $300, reinforcing Cramer's belief that investors should prioritize the ongoing business narrative over historical price movements. In summary, Cramer encourages investors to look beyond past stock performance and evaluate the underlying business potential, stating, "Don't let a stock's past gains prevent you from capitalizing on its future opportunities."
