In an exciting move for online shoppers, Flipkart has launched a new premium subscription service named Flipkart Black in India. This initiative is designed to provide users with a range of shopping, travel, and entertainment benefits, positioning itself as a strong competitor to Amazon Prime. Flipkart Black takes over from the previous Flipkart VIP plan and is available for an annual fee of ₹1,499. For a limited time, new subscribers can take advantage of an introductory price of just ₹990 until the month’s end. The Flipkart Black membership is valid for a full year from the date of activation and can be renewed annually. A standout feature of this subscription is a complimentary one-year access to YouTube Premium, allowing users to enjoy ad-free streaming, offline viewing, background playback, and access to YouTube Music. This benefit is exclusive to the membership period and is linked to a single YouTube account. Flipkart has tailored this new offering for the “digitally native” audience that prioritizes personalized experiences and immediate access to services. In addition to the paid subscription, Flipkart continues to support its free loyalty program, Flipkart Plus, which provides benefits such as extra SuperCoins cashback. Unlike Flipkart Plus, however, Flipkart Black extends its advantages into entertainment and travel. Rahat Patel, Vice President at Flipkart, expressed that the initial benefits are centered around shopping, entertainment, and travel, with plans for additional perks in the future. By introducing Flipkart Black, the company aims to upgrade its premium ecosystem and compete more effectively in India's growing subscription market, especially in light of the limitations found in the previous Flipkart VIP service, which was offered at ₹799 annually but lacked several new features.
