Fitbit’s revamped app, with Gemini-powered health coach, rolls out to Premium users

Fitbit has officially rolled out its innovative Gemini-powered health coach, named Coach, to Premium subscribers in the U.S. on Android, starting tomorrow, with plans to expand to iOS later this year. This feature aims to elevate Fitbit's position in the competitive fitness market, leveraging Google’s cutting-edge AI technology. The Coach feature acts as a comprehensive personal trainer, sleep specialist, and wellness advisor, tailoring fitness plans according to individual goals and available resources. At the recent Made by Google event, the capabilities of Coach were highlighted, showcasing how it can create personalized workout regimens. For instance, if a user aims to increase their running distance, Coach will devise a custom plan with achievable milestones, adjusting in real-time based on performance feedback. If an injury occurs, the AI is equipped to modify the regimen accordingly to ensure safety and effectiveness. In addition to its AI Coach, the Fitbit app has undergone a significant redesign, enhancing user experience with a streamlined interface centered around four main tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health. The Today tab serves as the app's core, summarizing essential metrics, weekly cardio load, and other relevant statistics at a glance. Users can customize this view to emphasize the metrics that matter most to them. The Fitness tab houses workout plans and key performance indicators, including cardio goals and average weekly step counts. However, it should be noted that some features, like nutrition tracking and cycle logging, are not yet available. The Sleep tab introduces new AI insights to help users improve their sleep habits, offering a summary of the previous night’s sleep, including any disturbances. Lastly, the Health tab provides quick access to vital health metrics such as breathing rate, blood oxygen levels, and resting heart rate, giving users a complete picture of their health status. To access the Coach preview, users must have an active Fitbit Premium subscription along with a compatible Fitbit smartwatch, tracker, or Pixel Watch.
