First Voyage raises $2.5M for its AI companion helps you build habits

In a landscape increasingly saturated with AI-generated content, the startup First Voyage is on a mission to help individuals cultivate positive habits while navigating through this digital noise. Their solution? An AI companion app known as Momo Self Care, which introduces users to a virtual pet named Momo. This digital companion encourages users to engage in habit-building activities by sending reminders and rewards. Momo allows users to set specific tasks they'd like to complete, and for each task finished, users earn coins that can be spent on customizing their virtual pet. The app also offers conversations with Momo, who provides personalized recommendations aimed at enhancing users' self-care journeys. Co-founder and CEO Besart Çopa emphasized that Momo is designed to help users become their best selves, fostering a reciprocal relationship where users show care and affection towards Momo. On Monday, First Voyage announced the successful completion of a $2.5 million seed funding round, backed by investors including a16z speedrun, SignalFire, and True Global. Çopa reported that users have already generated over 2 million tasks on the platform, with the most sought-after habits focusing on productivity, mindfulness, and spirituality. As the market for AI companions expands, there are growing concerns about the potential negative impacts of these technologies. Nevertheless, Çopa expresses optimism about the future, believing that the bond between AI characters and humans will strengthen in the coming years. He remarked that the rise of AI apps in wellness is preferable to those that exploit basic urges, adding, "We are pleased that many founders and startups are investing in the AI self-care arena rather than creating superficial alternatives." Momo has been designed with safety measures, including prompt filters to ensure that interactions remain appropriate. The new funding will be instrumental in launching Momo on the Android platform, complementing its existing availability on iOS. The First Voyage team aims to enhance Momo's intelligence, hoping to establish it as a leading consumer brand that leverages AI, animation, and gamification to enrich lives.
