Fifth Third signs deal making fintech firm Brex the provider of its commercial cards

In a significant development for the banking sector, Fifth Third Bank announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a partnership with fintech company Brex to provide commercial cards and expense management solutions for its business clients. This initiative will leverage Brex's advanced embedded payments platform, which allows banks to issue corporate cards and streamline expense reporting through the use of artificial intelligence. This collaboration highlights a growing trend among banks to align with fintech firms, opting for partnerships over the costly and time-consuming process of developing their own technology platforms. Fifth Third is also in the midst of acquiring Comerica, a strategic move that is set to position it as the ninth largest bank in the United States, boasting approximately $288 billion in assets. Fifth Third's CEO, Tim Spence, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, "Our collaboration with Brex underscores our commitment to transforming how businesses utilize financial technology. By merging the robust capabilities of a leading bank with Brex's innovative AI solutions, we are crafting intelligent tools that reduce complexity, enhance efficiency, and empower businesses to expand globally with confidence." The financial specifics of the agreement, however, remain undisclosed.
