US law enforcement warns of “anti-tech extremism” as AI hatred grows

This initiative is a direct response to directives from the Trump administration, particularly National Security Presidential Memo 7, which mandates that the Department of Justice target individuals espousing "anti-American," "anti-Christian," and "anti-capitalist" views. Recently, Sebastian Gorka, a prominent figure in counterterrorism, emphasized that left-wing extremists rank among the top counterterrorism concerns in the U.S. These directives have reportedly expanded the scope of domestic surveillance to monitor and potentially penalize those who voice dissent against the current administration's ideology. The focus on anti-technology extremism introduces a previously unreported classification of threats, particularly relevant in an era where artificial intelligence and data centers are rapidly evolving. One notable document from the New York Intelligence and Counterterrorism Bureau highlights the potential for large-scale unrest linked to AI advancements. It warns that the societal turmoil stemming from these technologies could lead to significant protests and even violent extremist activities, especially in major urban centers like New York City. The concept of "anti-tech violent extremism" is notably absent from existing DHS or FBI reports, marking it as a novel categorization of various ideological perspectives under one umbrella of extremism.
