In a recent initiative, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr has called on broadcasters to participate in the newly launched "Pledge America Campaign." This campaign aims to support President Trump’s upcoming "Salute to America 250" project, which commemorates the nation’s 250th anniversary. According to Carr, broadcasters are invited to commit to airing content that celebrates this milestone in their respective markets. In a press release, he outlined various types of programming that could be included, such as beginning each broadcast day with the "Star Spangled Banner" or the Pledge of Allegiance. Other suggested content includes public service announcements that promote civic education, local stories that inspire, and segments that highlight historically significant sites within communities. Carr also emphasized the importance of featuring music by renowned American composers, including John Philip Sousa and George Gershwin, alongside daily segments focused on significant events in U.S. history. The initiative is set to kick off immediately and continue until at least July 4, 2026, coinciding with the planned yearlong celebration of American independence. While Carr described participation in this campaign as voluntary, he hinted that broadcasters could fulfill their public interest obligations by engaging with the Pledge America Campaign. This statement comes amid previous warnings from Carr regarding potential penalties for stations that do not meet public interest standards, which adds a layer of urgency to this call for patriotic programming.
