Following his push for ABC to suspend Jimmy Kimmel, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr is now focusing on the network's The View and late-night hosts at NBC, including Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon. In a recent appearance on a radio show hosted by Scott Jennings, who positions himself as a critic of liberal media, Carr was questioned about whether The View and other ABC programs might violate FCC regulations. Jennings referenced comments made by former President Trump, who had called for NBC to cancel Meyers and Fallon, prompting Carr to consider the implications for these shows. Carr highlighted the FCC's Equal Opportunities Rule, which mandates that if one political figure appears on a program, equal airtime must be offered to their opponent during election cycles. He indicated that the FCC might evaluate whether The View and similar shows qualify for an exemption from this rule, stating, "When you look at these other TV shows, the FCC does have a rule that requires equal opportunity." The FCC Chair also warned broadcasters that if they resist enforcement of these regulations, they have the option to surrender their licenses, emphasizing that the agency is prepared to take action. He noted that while the FCC had not previously applied this rule to the aforementioned shows due to exemptions for certain news programs, the current conversation could lead to a reevaluation of those exemptions.
