RMFG, a cutting-edge startup focused on AI-enhanced manufacturing, has successfully raised $4.5 million to bolster the revival of production in the United States. Founded in July 2024 by Kenneth Cassel, a 32-year-old self-taught coder and father of four, the company aims to transform the manufacturing landscape. Cassel, who grew up in a large blue-collar family in Texas, began his journey in the tech world while working in maintenance for a gas station. He believes the current climate signals a renaissance in manufacturing, as he stated, "We're experiencing a renewed interest in this sector." RMFG offers a solution for startups that wish to avoid the heavy costs associated with building their own manufacturing facilities or the potential risks of outsourcing production overseas. Their AI-driven sheet metal factory, located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, automates time-consuming processes typically performed manually. By utilizing AI agents and advanced technologies, the company significantly reduces lead times from months to mere weeks. Cassel pointed out that the perception of factory jobs has evolved. With advancements in technology, more individuals are gravitating towards physical products, especially as AI continues to redefine the value of traditional software startups. RMFG is strategically positioned in the rapidly growing robotics sector, catering to clients that are scaling quickly after receiving venture capital. Participating in RMFG's pre-seed funding round were prominent investors, including Y Combinator, Day One Ventures, and Soma Capital, along with notable angel investors such as Balaji Srinivasan and Patrick Collison. In just one year, RMFG has shipped over 100,000 parts and currently serves around 200 customers, including innovative companies like drill-rig startup Durin and cloud-seeding firm Rainmaker. With a dedicated team of nine employees, primarily in manufacturing roles, Cassel plans to allocate the newly acquired funds towards expanding their technology team, which includes him and a founding engineer. RMFG also has plans to broaden its range of services in the near future.
