Designer Kate Barton teams up with IBM and Fiducia AI for a NYFW presentation

Designer Kate Barton is set to showcase her latest collection during New York Fashion Week, and this time, she’s infusing technology into her presentation. Collaborating with Fiducia AI, Barton has developed a multilingual AI agent leveraging IBM Watsonx on IBM Cloud, allowing guests to interact with her collection and virtually try on pieces. In an exclusive discussion, Barton and Ganesh Harinath, the CEO of Fiducia AI, revealed the creative process behind this unique event. Barton emphasized that technology is integral to her vision, enabling her to blend reality with imagination. She explained that the AI-driven setup serves as a gateway into the world of her collection, aiming to spark curiosity among attendees. Harinath highlighted that the technology employed, including IBM Cloud Object Storage, plays a crucial role in the presentation. The AI’s capabilities allow it to recognize items from Barton’s collection and respond to inquiries in multiple languages, both through text and voice, alongside offering realistic virtual try-ons. He noted that orchestrating the technology was the most challenging aspect of the production. This isn’t the first time Barton has embraced technology in her designs; she previously experimented with AI models in partnership with Fiducia AI. As the fashion industry continues to discuss the role of AI, Barton believes many brands have already started integrating AI into their operations, albeit discreetly. She likened current attitudes toward AI to the initial hesitance of major fashion brands in establishing an online presence. While many companies are dabbling with AI for basic functions like chatbots and content creation, Barton envisions a future where advanced technology enhances fashion design and storytelling. She advocates for transparency and understanding in the use of AI, stressing that it should complement human creativity rather than replace it. Despite the complexities and apprehensions surrounding AI, Barton remains optimistic about its future in fashion. She predicts that by 2028, AI will be a commonplace element in the industry, fundamentally changing how fashion is created and experienced. "The future of fashion lies in using new tools to elevate craftsmanship and storytelling, not in automation that diminishes the artistry behind it," Barton stated.
