Fal, an innovative startup specializing in hosting AI models for images, videos, and audio, has successfully raised $140 million in a Series D funding round. This significant investment was spearheaded by Sequoia Capital, with contributions from Kleiner Perkins, Nvidia, and other previous investors, including Andreessen Horowitz. This latest funding round marks Fal's third financial boost this year, propelling its valuation to an impressive $4.5 billion—approximately three times its worth during its $125 million Series C funding in July. Earlier reports indicated that Fal was in discussions for a new round of financing, with the valuation surpassing $4 billion. The recent $140 million figure encompasses both fresh capital and a secondary sale where existing investors liquidated shares, according to sources familiar with the transaction. Fal serves as a vital infrastructure provider for multimodal AI applications, catering to high-profile clients such as Adobe, Shopify, Canva, and Quora. Founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur, a former leader in machine learning at Coinbase, and Gorkem Yurtseven, a previous developer at Amazon, Fal has already exceeded $200 million in revenue as of October.
