Nicole Cleland, a resident of Minnesota, claims her Global Entry and TSA Precheck privileges were revoked just three days following an encounter with immigration agents. In a court declaration submitted to the US District Court for Minnesota, Cleland detailed a troubling incident involving facial recognition technology. As a director at Target Corporation and an active volunteer tracking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) vehicles in her area, Cleland felt compelled to monitor what she believed were federal enforcement actions. On January 10, she noticed a white Dodge Ram, which she suspected was operated by federal agents, and decided to follow it to observe their activities, concerned about a possible raid on a nearby apartment building. Following the Dodge Ram at a safe distance, Cleland soon found herself blocked by two other vehicles, which also appeared to be driven by federal agents. One agent approached her vehicle and, identifying her by name, informed her that he had utilized facial recognition technology to do so. He stated he was with Border Patrol, was recording the interaction, and accused her of impeding their operations. Cleland was issued a verbal warning, with the agent cautioning that any further interference could lead to her arrest.
