The US Space Force has unveiled a list of twelve companies actively engaged in developing Space-Based Interceptors (SBIs) as part of the ambitious Golden Dome initiative. This multilayered defense system aims to protect US territories from a range of threats, including drones, ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, and cruise missiles. Among the contractors announced are notable names such as Anduril Industries, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics Mission Systems, GITAI USA, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Quindar, Raytheon, Sci-Tec, SpaceX, True Anomaly, and Turion Space. These companies were awarded 20 contracts through an acquisition approach known as Other Transaction Authority (OTA), which was implemented in late 2025 and early 2026. OTAs are designed to streamline the acquisition process, allowing the Pentagon to attract a broader range of contractors and expedite rapid prototyping. With a total funding potential reaching up to $3.2 billion, this initiative will leverage both public and private investments to advance SBIs toward testing in low-Earth orbit. While specific contributions from each company have not been disclosed, the diverse expertise among the contractors is expected to enhance the program's development. Currently, these agreements focus on early-stage development and technology demonstrations rather than full-scale production, which would entail significantly higher costs. The Space Force has emphasized that due to operational security protocols, further details about the SBI program will remain confidential for the time being. Industry leaders like SpaceX, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman are likely to emerge as key players in this initiative, while newer firms such as Anduril and True Anomaly are eager to make their mark in the national security landscape. Additionally, companies like Sci-Tec and Quindar bring valuable software expertise, while Turion specializes in space sensing technology. GITAI USA began its journey in the field of in-space robotics, showcasing the variety of skills being applied to this critical defense project.
