How many messages can you send with ChatGPT-5? Here’s the breakdown for all plan

OpenAI recently unveiled its latest language model, GPT-5, during a live-stream event, showcasing significant enhancements in areas such as reasoning, accuracy, writing, coding capabilities, health inquiries, and multi-modal functionalities. In a surprising move, OpenAI has made GPT-5 accessible to free-tier users, breaking from its previous practice of restricting new models to paying subscribers. However, free users no longer have access to GPT-4 or older models that they were previously using. For those who have gained access to GPT-5, you might find yourself facing new messaging limits, especially if you're in the free or Plus user categories. Free-tier users are allowed to send a maximum of 10 messages per hour using the standard model and only one message per day to the GPT-5 Thinking model. Once they reach this limit, they will be automatically switched to a mini version of both models for their queries. ChatGPT Plus users, who pay $20 per month, initially had access to 80 messages every three hours with the standard model. This limit has now been temporarily increased to 160 messages every three hours. They can also send up to 200 messages per week using the Thinking model. After reaching their limits, Plus users will also need to revert to the mini model. For those subscribed to ChatGPT Pro or Team plans, unlimited access to the GPT-5 Standard, Thinking, and Pro models is available, albeit with certain safeguards against misuse. The Pro subscription is priced at $200 per month, while the Team subscription costs $25 per user each month. A notable feature of GPT-5 is its built-in automatic router, designed by OpenAI to seamlessly switch between the Thinking and Standard models according to the complexity of the task, the type of conversation, the tools required, and user intent. Users can also activate this feature by including specific prompts like "think hard about this" in their requests.
