The Chevrolet Bolt has garnered significant appreciation as one of the first affordable long-range electric vehicles on the market. While it wasn't without its flaws—such as slow charging speeds and less-than-comfortable seating—the Bolt offered an impressive range of over 230 miles on a single charge, a standout feature in 2017. Enthusiasts were understandably disheartened when Chevrolet announced its discontinuation, especially since it remained the brand's top-selling electric vehicle. In response to fan concerns, Chevrolet executives assured that a superior model was on the horizon. Enter the Equinox EV, which is built on an upgraded platform and is set to start at a competitive price of approximately $35,000. This price point was especially attractive when the vehicle qualified for the now-expired $7,500 IRS clean vehicle tax credit. However, the base LT1 model is somewhat basic, prompting many to opt for the LT2 variant, which begins at $40,295 and includes desirable features such as heated seats and wireless device charging. For those on a budget, it's worth noting that used Equinox EVs are already available at lower prices, just a year after their release. Comparatively, when the Bolt was first introduced, its higher-end models approached $42,000, making the value of the Equinox EV even more notable in 2025. The Equinox EV is considerably larger, measuring 190.6 inches in length, 77 inches in width, and 64.8 inches in height, offering a roomier and more comfortable experience than its subcompact predecessor. Its well-designed seating and suspension effectively mitigate the discomfort from road imperfections, making for a smoother ride. Additionally, the vehicle boasts ample storage, providing 26.4 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, which expands to 57.2 cubic feet when those seats are folded down.
