Exotel acqui-hires Dubverse to boost AI-led customer experience play

Exotel, a cloud communications platform, has announced the strategic acqui-hire of the core team from voice AI startup Dubverse, including co-founders Anuja Dhawan and Varshul Gupta. This move signifies Exotel's intensified commitment to enhancing its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in customer experience solutions. In this new role, Dhawan will oversee Exotel's Conversation Quality Analytics (CQA), while Gupta will lead various AI projects. Exotel aims to expand its AI framework and develop an AI-centric platform for customer engagement. According to Shivakumar Ganesan, founder and CEO of Exotel, many enterprises currently lack visibility into the majority of their customer interactions. He emphasized that the CQA tool is designed to address this gap by assessing conversations in real time based on the company's specific standards. Ganesan acknowledged the unique expertise that the Dubverse team brings, noting that building effective voice and language AI models requires a collaborative effort rather than piecemeal hiring. He remarked, "The Dubverse team has successfully developed and deployed AI models that are crucial for our goals. Such depth of knowledge is not easily acquired one hire at a time." This acquisition aligns with a rising trend among businesses investing in AI-driven solutions for customer engagement, focusing on areas like intent recognition, sentiment analysis, and conversational intelligence. Dhawan pointed out that many organizations currently analyze only a small portion of their customer interactions, which leads to missed insights regarding quality and compliance. She stated, "At Exotel, we aim to change this landscape with CQA, providing comprehensive visibility into every interaction and enabling organizations to transition from manual evaluations to continuous, AI-driven insights." Gupta also highlighted the complexities involved in developing voice AI systems tailored for the Indian market, which necessitates consideration of factors like linguistic diversity, accents, and cultural contexts. He emphasized, "Creating AI solutions for India requires a unique approach due to the country's diverse languages and real-world challenges, ensuring these systems operate effectively at scale."
