AI researchers continue to leave Google for its rivals

In a significant shift within the AI landscape, prominent researchers Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel are departing Google to join Anthropic, as reported by Bloomberg. Both Adler and Pritzel have been instrumental in the creation of Google’s Gemini model, marking their exit as a notable loss for the tech giant. Just last week, the renowned AI researcher Noam Shazeer announced his move to OpenAI. Shazeer, who had been with Google since 2000, aside from a brief period spent on his chatbot startup, Character.AI, was brought back to work on Gemini after Google acquired his company for $2.7 billion. Adding to the list, John Jumper, the Director of Google DeepMind, also revealed his transition to Anthropic. Jumper, alongside DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, was recently awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their groundbreaking work on AlphaFold, a tool that accurately predicts 3D protein structures from amino acid sequences.
