While some former staff members indicated they are leaving to pursue new ventures, Musk suggested that these changes are part of a broader strategy to streamline xAI's operations. However, discontent among employees appears to be growing due to what they perceive as a troubling disregard for safety protocols. This concern has intensified following reports that Grok produced over a million inappropriate images, including deepfakes involving real individuals and minors. One departing source bluntly stated, "Safety is a dead org at xAI," while another articulated that Musk's vision seems to prioritize a more chaotic model, interpreting safety measures as a form of censorship. Furthermore, employees have expressed feelings of being directionless, with one person noting that xAI seems to be lagging behind its competitors, stuck in a phase of catching up rather than leading the field.
