NewStarfleet Academytrailer debuts at NYCC

At this weekend's New York Comic Con (NYCC), fans of the Star Trek franchise were treated to a thrilling new trailer for the upcoming series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. This ten-episode series marks the debut of a fresh cohort of cadets in the Starfleet universe for the first time in a century. The show aims to capture the aspirations of a young group of cadets united by a shared dream of hope and optimism. As they prepare to become Starfleet officers, viewers will witness their journeys filled with camaraderie, fierce competition, budding romances, and an emerging adversary that poses a significant threat to both the Academy and the Federation. Among the new cadets, audiences will meet Caleb Mir, portrayed by Sandro Rosta, a human orphan; Jay-Den Kraag, a Klingon cadet played by Karim Diané; and Sam, the first Kasquain to attend the Academy, brought to life by Kerrice Brooks. The cast also includes George Hawkins as Darem Reymi, a Khionian aspiring captain, Bella Shepard as Genesis Lythe, a Dar-Sha cadet, and Zoë Steiner as Tarima Sadal, the daughter of Betazed's president. Prominent actors lending their voices to the series include Holly Hunter as Captain Nahla Ake, the Academy's chancellor, and Gina Yashere as Cadet Master Lura Thok. Additionally, Becky Lynch will portray a member of the Starfleet bridge crew, and Paul Giamatti takes on the role of Nus Braka, a half-Klingon, half-Tellarite antagonist. Returning characters from Star Trek: Discovery, including Jett Reno, Admiral Vance, and Sylvia Tilly, will be reprised by Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr, and Mary Wiseman, respectively. Furthermore, Robert Picardo will return as The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager, now set 900 years after his initial appearance. Stephen Colbert will voice the Digital Dean of Students, responsible for the Academy's daily announcements, having recorded his message for the fans in lieu of attending NYCC in person, humorously citing a lack of suitable cosplay materials as his reason for absence.
