Sora update to bring AI videos of your pets, new social features, and soon, an Android version

OpenAI is stirring excitement with upcoming enhancements to its popular AI-driven video creation app, Sora. Since its launch in late September, the app has rapidly ascended to the top of the App Store charts, holding the number one spot in both the U.S. and Canada. The forthcoming updates promise a range of innovative features, including advanced video editing tools and the ability for users to create unique character 'cameos' of their pets and other objects. Bill Peebles, head of Sora, announced on X that these new creation tools are set to debut in just a few days. Users will have the capability to turn their pets, favorite toys, and more into personalized cameos. The concept of 'cameo' allows users to generate AI versions of themselves by uploading a reference video. These custom personas can then be shared with friends, opening the door for collaborative video projects. Peebles expressed enthusiasm about the potential creativity this feature could unleash, noting that the app will also enhance its user interface to display trending cameos in real time. In addition to cameo creation, Sora will roll out basic video editing functionalities, starting with the ability to merge multiple clips. The team is also focused on improving the social aspects of the app, potentially introducing dedicated channels for universities, companies, and sports teams. OpenAI is also responding to user feedback by addressing concerns around content moderation and enhancing overall app performance. While Sora is currently available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store, OpenAI has yet to announce an official launch date for the Android version. However, Peebles reassured users that it is expected to be available 'soon.' Since its launch, estimates from Appfigures indicate that Sora has garnered around 2 million downloads, a remarkable feat considering the app remains invite-only and is currently limited to the U.S. and Canada.
