Apple could bring these nine new emojis to your iPhone with iOS 27

Apple is reportedly set to introduce a variety of new emojis in its forthcoming iOS update, according to a recent report. Emojipedia indicates that the Unicode Consortium has released a draft list of emojis that may be included in the upcoming iOS 27 update next year. The Unicode Emoji Standard & Research Working Group has put forward nine innovative emoji concepts, along with ten additional skin tone modifiers. These emojis are currently being considered as candidates for Unicode Emoji 18.0. Following this, major tech companies like Apple and Google will create their own designs and incorporate them into their software updates. Interestingly, Apple has yet to implement the emojis from Unicode Emoji 17.0, which features new entries such as Shovel, Fingerprint, and Beet. These emojis are anticipated to launch with the iOS 26.4 update, expected around March or April. If things proceed as planned, the new emojis under Unicode Emoji 18.0 could debut alongside the iOS 27.4 update around March. Apple's next significant software release is anticipated to be announced at the WWDC 26 event later this year, with the final version typically rolling out in conjunction with the latest iPhone releases in September. The upcoming iPhone 17e, which may launch in the coming months, is expected to come pre-installed with iOS 26. While the annual emoji additions may not feel as impactful as they once did given the plethora of existing options, Apple has introduced a feature allowing users to create their own emojis through Genmoji, part of the company’s AI suite known as Apple Intelligence, which started with iOS 18. Currently, this feature is available only on newer iPhone models, beginning with the iPhone 15 Pro. As for iOS 27, details remain sparse. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicted last year that this update would mirror the Snow Leopard-style release of Mac OS X Snow Leopard from 2009, emphasizing subtle enhancements and quality improvements rather than a multitude of new features.
