Nintendo Switch 2 fans may soon play Assassin’s Creed Shadows, leaks suggest

Recent leaks indicate that Ubisoft's highly anticipated title, Assassin's Creed Shadows, may soon be available on the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2. A now-removed listing from the French retailer Auchan, which was identified by a Reddit user and shared across the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, featured details including box art and platform capabilities for the game. While the listing did not disclose any pricing information, it suggested that players would purchase Assassin's Creed Shadows as a Game-Key Card. This format is noteworthy as it requires users to download the complete game online after purchase, necessitating an internet connection for play. The introduction of Game-Key Cards has sparked some debate among fans, as they may function more like digital licenses rather than traditional physical copies, which could restrict offline gameplay. Ubisoft previously used this model for a different title, Star Wars Outlaws, on the same platform, eliciting mixed reactions from players who value physical ownership of their games. The fleeting appearance of the Auchan listing has reignited speculation that Ubisoft is poised to officially announce the game's arrival on the Switch 2. In a previous statement made in July, Ubisoft hinted at "new versions" of Assassin's Creed Shadows being developed for "other machines," although specific platforms were not disclosed at that time. This leak follows a similar occurrence in April, when the PEGI ratings board briefly listed the Switch 2 as a supported platform for the game before retracting the information. Originally released on March 20, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, Assassin's Creed Shadows has proven to be a commercial success for Ubisoft, boasting over five million unique players as reported during their recent first-quarter FY2025-26 earnings call. The game’s first major expansion, Claws of Awaji, launched on September 16, offering complimentary access to players who pre-ordered the base version.
