Google’s Material 3 Expressive UI rolls out to Pixel 6 and newer

In a recent announcement, Google has begun rolling out its updated Material 3 Expressive user interface to Pixel devices, starting with the Pixel 6 series and newer models. This rollout comes as the tech giant continues to promote its latest Pixel 10 phones, which, while impressive, do not represent a significant upgrade over their predecessors. For users opting to hold onto their current Android devices, the September Pixel Drop brings a suite of enhancements that go beyond standard bug fixes and security updates. This quarterly update is more substantial than the regular monthly patches and introduces the freshly designed Material 3 Expressive interface. Originally unveiled in May, Material 3 was not included with the initial Android 16 release earlier this summer but is now being made available across a wider array of Pixel devices. The revamped interface is designed to enhance user experience by leveraging theme colors extracted directly from users' wallpapers, providing a more personalized look. In addition to aesthetic improvements, the update features more dynamic animations, adjustable quick settings, and customizable call screens. While not officially highlighted, it's expected that this update will also include a new desktop mode experience. Moreover, Pixel devices will see enhancements in connectivity features. Google is set to activate Adaptive Audio on the Pixel Buds Pro 2 later this month, allowing the earbuds to automatically adjust their volume according to the surrounding noise levels. Additionally, users with Android smartwatches paired to their Pixels will benefit from enhanced functionality, as Google Maps will launch automatically when navigation is initiated on the phone.
