New features in store for iPhone users? Here's what can change with iOS 26.1

Apple is on the brink of launching iOS 26.1, following the release of iOS 26 in September. Currently in the Release Candidate (RC) phase, this forthcoming update promises a host of visual enhancements and functional tweaks aimed at enriching the iPhone user experience. Recently, an iOS developer and beta tester shared the news of iOS 26.1 RC2, indicating that the software is nearing its final form before the public rollout. While Apple has yet to confirm an official release date, historical patterns suggest that the company typically launches an update a week or two after the RC version is made available. This places the anticipated launch of iOS 26.1 around early November, just a week after the latest RC announcement. Among the standout features users can expect from iOS 26.1 are significant updates to Liquid Glass customization, alarm functionality, and more intuitive controls in Apple Music. Firstly, the Liquid Glass feature will empower users with greater customization options for their iPhone interface. The new toggle will allow users to select their preferred transparency level for system backgrounds, offering both “Clear” and “Tinted” modes. According to Apple, the “Clear” setting provides more transparency to showcase underlying content, while the “Tinted” option increases opacity for better contrast. Additionally, Apple has revamped the alarm and timer functions, replacing the traditional tap-to-stop mechanism with a more user-friendly “slide to stop” gesture. This change aims to minimize accidental dismissals while providing a more tactile experience for users. The update will also enhance the Lock Screen functionality, allowing users to disable the often-accidentally triggered “swipe to open Camera” shortcut. In Apple Music, navigating between songs will become more seamless with the introduction of a simple swipe left or right on the mini-player, streamlining playback. In a nod to visual aesthetics, the Apple TV app will feature a redesigned, more colorful icon and will be simply branded as “Apple TV.” Furthermore, the update expands language support for the AI-driven Apple Intelligence and AirPods Live Translation features to include Danish, Turkish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, and Italian. Lastly, iOS 26.1 will bolster device security through the introduction of “Background Security Improvements,” which will enable automatic installation of minor security patches in between major updates, effectively replacing the previous Rapid Security Response system. Stay tuned for the latest updates on technology news and features as the iOS 26.1 launch approaches.
