Lunar Outpost celebrates release of Lego Moon Rover Space Vehicle

During a recent trip to the toy section at Target, siblings Ari and Aiden encountered an unexpected delight. Among the fresh Lego arrivals was a box featuring a striking image of a space vehicle. "I pointed at the box and asked, 'Hey, what's that?' and they excitedly responded, 'It's MAPP!'" shared their father, Andrew "AJ" Gemer, in an interview with collectSPACE. He noted that his kids were completely unaware of the Lego set's existence until its official launch. Gemer, who is the co-founder and chief technology officer at Lunar Outpost, expressed joy at witnessing his children's reactions. The new Lego Technic Lunar Outpost® Moon Rover Space Vehicle kit is designed for ages 10 and older, yet even his younger children—a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old—could recognize the Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform, known as MAPP. This rover, which is the smallest of the three models included in the 1,082-piece set, holds a special significance for them as it is based on their father's real-life robotic moon rover. Lunar Outpost, a Colorado-based company, is at the forefront of developing solutions for lunar mobility, commercial space robotics, and resource utilization in space. Currently, they are one of three firms vying for NASA’s selection of a lunar terrain vehicle (LTV) for the Artemis missions, which aim to explore the moon's south pole. To commemorate the Lego set's launch, Gemer and his children, along with other representatives from Lunar Outpost, attended the "Astronaut Days" event at Space Center Houston in Texas. There, they set up a booth where families could engage in fun activities related to space exploration, play with Lego bricks, and even have a chance to win one of the new $99.99 sets to take home.
