Former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal’s Parallel Web Systems raises $100 million at $2 billion valuation: report

Parallel Web Systems, the innovative startup launched by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, has successfully secured $100 million in a Series B funding round led by Sequoia Capital. This significant investment propels the company's valuation to an impressive $2 billion, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. The funding round also saw participation from notable existing investors, including Kleiner Perkins, Index Ventures, and Khosla Ventures. Based in Palo Alto, Parallel Web Systems specializes in creating infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) agents designed to search and interact with the web. With this latest funding, the company has raised a total of approximately $230 million, following a prior Series A round that raised $100 million in November, which valued the company at $740 million. Agrawal shared that the newly acquired capital will be directed towards expanding sales and marketing efforts while also investing in research and development to better serve enterprise clients. The startup is betting on the increasing reliance of autonomous AI agents—software systems that perform tasks on behalf of users—on the web as their main interface. Andrew Reed, who will be joining Parallel's board as part of the funding deal, commented on the company's potential, linking its growth to the increasing prominence of long-term AI systems. He stated, "A key function among these long-horizon agents is their ability to utilize the web effectively." Parallel Web Systems claims to support over 100,000 developers across various startups and enterprises. It is positioning itself in a competitive landscape that includes emerging players like Tavily and Exa, in a market that investors are increasingly recognizing as ripe for growth in AI agent infrastructure. Reflecting on the journey ahead, Agrawal conveyed the company's commitment to rapid development, noting, "Every few weeks, we solve one bottleneck and face another. We're creating exciting innovations here, and I believe in our mission. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here."
