Evotrex raises $30M to build the RV that doesn’t need a charging station

In a significant leap for the RV industry, Evotrex, a Los Angeles-based startup, has successfully raised $30 million in a Series A funding round. This funding will pave the way for the production and sale of its innovative hybrid RV travel trailers, with a target of approximately 1,000 units annually slated for next year. The company's total capital raised now stands at $46 million, thanks largely to investments from a consortium of firms based in China and Hong Kong, including notable players like GSR United Capital and Anker, a well-known consumer electronics brand. Having emerged from stealth mode and showcased its prototype at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, Evotrex is gearing up to compete in a burgeoning market. With traditional RV manufacturers such as Thor and Winnebago lagging in electric vehicle production, a wave of new startups has entered the fray. Co-founder Alex Xiao expressed enthusiasm for the competitive landscape, drawing from his previous experience at Anker to carve out a niche for Evotrex. "We are not afraid of competition; it helps us educate the market and grow together," he stated. Evotrex's offering is unique, integrating a battery pack that can be recharged via an onboard gas engine, positioning it as an extended range electric vehicle (EREV). This design aims to enable off-grid living for extended periods, a feature that pure electric RVs struggle to provide. The demand for their flagship PG5 model, priced at around $160,000, has been robust, with 90% of pre-orders for its premium version, reflecting a strong customer interest. As the company readies itself for production, it emphasizes the importance of durability and customer support. Xiao noted the industry's challenges with mechanical integrity, asserting that Evotrex is committed to rigorous testing over the next year. The startup has strategically prioritized service capabilities over sales, evidenced by the early hiring of a service employee. Manufacturing will take place in China, with final assembly in California, a decision that Xiao believes will enhance their access to a diverse market. He is also keen on leveraging customer feedback to refine their product. "Understanding real customer demand and delivering an exceptional product is crucial for success," Xiao emphasized, underscoring the company's commitment to building a loyal customer base that will advocate for their innovative RVs.
