Trump EPA reportedly seeks to revoke landmark air pollution rule

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under the Trump administration, is reportedly moving towards revoking the 2009 "endangerment finding" that identified greenhouse gases as a threat to public health. This significant change could be announced as early as this week, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. This finding has been the cornerstone for federal regulations governing six greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide and methane. Since its inception, it has faced numerous challenges but has remained intact. The anticipated repeal is expected to prompt legal battles, potentially dragging on for years before a resolution is reached. The Congressional Budget Office has indicated that rising sea levels threaten nearly $1 trillion in real estate, and failure to address global warming could lead to a 2% increase in mortality rates in the U.S. Furthermore, a 2024 study predicts that climate change could reduce global GDP by as much as 17% by 2050, translating to an annual loss of $38 trillion.
