In a striking shift in the tech landscape, CEOs are stepping into the coding arena, bringing working prototypes to meetings and saying, "Look what I've created." Amjad Masad, CEO of the AI coding platform Replit, highlighted this trend during a recent episode of the "Possible" podcast. He noted that vibe coding is empowering executives who previously felt sidelined by the technical demands of product development. Many CEOs have felt a loss of control as they delegated responsibilities, often lacking direct involvement in the creation process. However, Masad emphasized that this is changing with the rise of vibe coding tools. He remarked, "We have CEOs that finally feel unleashed. They don't have to go beg someone to do it. They can just vibe code and bring it into a meeting." Masad explained that having a rough prototype enables leaders to challenge the traditional timelines of development. "Why should this take weeks to build if a version can be done in a few days?" he asked, pointing out that much of coding is often bogged down by unnecessary complexities that do not add real value to the strategic vision. He envisions a future where the coding process becomes so intuitive that it requires no technical expertise at all, allowing individuals to focus on creativity instead. Interestingly, some of the most effective users of AI coding tools are not engineers but product managers. Masad described them as "some of the best vibe coders" due to their skills in breaking down problems and articulating solutions clearly. Several tech leaders have openly acknowledged the advantages of using AI coding tools to enhance efficiency and expedite idea testing. For instance, Klarna's CEO, Sebastian Siemiatkowski, shared on the "Sourcery" podcast that he utilizes AI tools like Cursor to prototype concepts independently, thus conserving his team's time. He stated, "Rather than disturbing my poor engineers and product people with half-formed ideas, I now test it myself." Google CEO Sundar Pichai also revealed at Bloomberg Tech that he has been engaging in vibe coding, experimenting with tools like Replit to create custom web pages tailored to his needs. "It feels so delightful to be a coder in this moment," he expressed, highlighting the empowering nature of these new technologies in the hands of executives.
