How AI is helping solo founders make their first hires

In the competitive world of entrepreneurship, solo founders are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence to facilitate their first hires and expand their businesses. Katherine Pomerantz, a financial strategist and owner of Money Storyteller, had long contemplated hiring a business manager but faced challenges in translating her expertise into actionable procedures. Her breakthrough came with the adoption of generative AI. Pomerantz, who began using ChatGPT about a year ago, described it as a 'second brain' that helped her refine her administrative processes. By inputting various materials, including client call recordings and brainstorming session notes, she was able to identify workflow patterns and create standard operating procedures that her new hires could easily follow. This newfound clarity led Pomerantz to hire two employees—a US-based administrator and a bookkeeper from the Philippines—allowing her to double her output. 'We have more clients and are consistently meeting deadlines ahead of schedule,' she remarked. AI has also played a pivotal role in streamlining client interactions. When clients pose questions, such as whether to opt for a Roth IRA, her administrator can leverage AI to provide comprehensive insights, enabling Pomerantz to focus on critical discussions while ensuring timely responses. Similarly, Danielle Nazinitsky, the owner of Decode Real Estate, has harnessed generative AI to scale her New York City-based real estate firm. ChatGPT has served as a referral engine, attracting clients who discovered her services through the AI platform. To capitalize on this exposure, Nazinitsky engaged a GEO firm to enhance her brand visibility through strategic blog posts and client reviews. Thanks to the growth sparked by AI, she was able to hire a second broker, although still opting for a contractor model, commonly seen in real estate. Nazinitsky emphasizes the importance of knowing when to rely on human expertise, stating that hiring professionals for specific tasks yields significantly better results than outsourcing to AI. 'As a solopreneur, your time is your most valuable asset,' she emphasized, highlighting the balance between leveraging technology and maintaining quality through expert involvement.
