An identity verification AI startup is having all employees try vibe coding

In a bold move to enhance AI integration across its workforce, Checkr, a San Francisco-based AI-driven background check firm, is encouraging all employees, regardless of their technical background, to engage in a concept known as vibe coding. CEO Daniel Yanisse shared insights with Business Insider on how the company is striving to foster a culture of AI utilization among its staff. Yanisse emphasized Checkr's commitment to maximizing AI capabilities, stating that the firm has implemented initiatives like providing employees with monthly stipends to explore AI tools, hosting AI-focused days, and conducting demonstrations. Remarkably, after just one year, approximately 95% of employees are now using AI prompts on a daily basis. Looking ahead, the company plans to elevate its AI efforts through vibe coding, a hands-on approach that will allow non-technical employees to develop their own business applications. Yanisse revealed that upcoming AI days in March will be dedicated to guiding these employees through the coding process, empowering them to automate workflows and address challenges, such as managing extensive spreadsheets. To support this initiative, Checkr is evaluating various AI development platforms, including Lovable, Replit, and Claude Code, but Cursor has emerged as a favorite among both technical and non-technical teams. Yanisse noted, "Lovable is a fantastic starting point for those with no coding experience," while also hinting at the possibility of acquiring multiple tools to suit diverse user needs. Checkr's approach highlights a growing trend in which non-technical staff are increasingly driving AI initiatives within companies. According to a recent Moveworks survey, a significant portion of successful AI projects originates from support staff seeking to resolve everyday issues. However, the rise in AI adoption also presents challenges, as many users lack training in security and privacy risks associated with these technologies. As businesses adapt to the evolving landscape of AI, Yanisse believes that the demand for creative and flexible employees will increase. He pointed out that while some roles may be phased out, new positions will emerge, necessitating continuous training and skill development for the workforce. With over 900 employees, Checkr aims to cultivate a team that thrives in uncertainty and is eager to embrace new challenges. In a world where AI is rapidly transforming job functions, the importance of strategic thinking and creativity is paramount. Yanisse's vision for Checkr is not just about automation; it's about leveraging AI to enhance decision-making and empower teams to focus on innovative strategies.
