In an inspiring move, Nick Gross, known for his role as the drummer in the iconic band Goldfinger, is now championing the cause of youth empowerment through a unique career exploration platform called Find Your Grind. This innovative platform is designed to spotlight unconventional career paths, such as being a pop-punk musician, content creator, social media manager, or even a professional esports competitor, which are often overlooked in traditional educational settings. On Tuesday, the company announced a successful $5 million Series A funding round, bringing its total funding to $8 million. The investment was spearheaded by Echo Investment Capital, with contributions from Gross' own investment firm, Gross Labs. This new funding will accelerate the expansion of Find Your Grind's career readiness programs across the United States. Gross, who embarked on his own musical journey at just 17 with the band Open Air Stereo, derived inspiration for Find Your Grind from his experiences with students in his studio. He recognized the significant hurdles they faced in exploring career options, largely due to the limited exposure provided by conventional schooling. "Young people are entering a rapidly changing world of work," Gross shared with TechCrunch. "As students prepare to transition into their professional lives, many lack a clear understanding of their identity, aspirations, and how to navigate their post-school journey. Find Your Grind equips them with the tools to explore the careers available to them and discover paths that resonate with their strengths and interests." Traditional career guidance typically emphasizes salary and advancement, which can feel detached from the fast-paced job market that today’s youth are poised to enter. Many students are shifting away from traditional professions such as medicine, engineering, or law, with the World Economic Forum projecting that around 92 million jobs could become obsolete by 2030. Moreover, traditional career exploration often neglects the emotional considerations of finding a career that aligns with personal values and lifestyle. Find Your Grind focuses on four critical competencies: self-awareness, career awareness, social awareness, and action awareness. The platform includes a Lifestyle Assessment tool that guides students in identifying three lifestyle paths that match their preferences, such as entertainer, creator, or humanitarian. Following this, students receive a customized action plan outlining steps to take post-graduation. Additionally, the platform offers engaging videos, interactive lessons, and access to a diverse array of mentors who share insights from their own career journeys. Notable figures such as Tony Hawk, Tony Hoffman, and will.i.am serve as mentors, providing invaluable advice to aspiring students. An AI-driven feature known as the “Reflective Coach” also offers personalized feedback, prompting students to explore their responses more deeply for enhanced self-discovery. Furthermore, Find Your Grind is actively involved in workforce development initiatives, including lifestyle fairs that provide students with real-world experiences. The company is set to launch its inaugural program in Oklahoma City, collaborating with local schools and training centers to help students uncover job opportunities that align with their lifestyle choices. Looking ahead, Find Your Grind aims to roll out programs in additional cities, with a goal of reaching over a million students to foster a future-ready mindset.
