In a recent address, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan emphasized the critical role of technology in fostering inclusivity, ensuring that no individual is overlooked as India aspires to become a global leader in telecommunications. Speaking at the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Indian Telecommunications Service (ITS), he highlighted how telecommunications serve as the backbone of a digital India, facilitating advancements in governance, education, finance, and innovation. Reflecting on the evolution of the telecommunications sector, Radhakrishnan recounted the challenges of obtaining a telephone connection in the past and noted the transformative impact of mobile technology on communication today. He stressed that the future of connectivity must be rooted in ethical practices, ensuring that data and networks are accessible to all Indians, regardless of their location or circumstances. The Vice President acknowledged the significant contributions of ITS officers, who have been instrumental in shaping the telecommunications landscape in India. He praised their expertise and dedication, which have been pivotal in the country's telecom advancements, transitioning from a monopolistic landscape to a competitive marketplace. Radhakrishnan underscored that the journey of the telecommunications sector has been both extraordinary and unparalleled. "Telecommunication is the backbone of digital India," he stated, attributing the nation's future to the vision and leadership provided by ITS professionals. Established in 1965, ITS serves the techno-managerial needs of the government, driving progress and connectivity across the nation. Looking towards the future, Radhakrishnan urged ITS to continue spearheading India's connectivity initiatives, especially with the advent of emerging technologies like 5G and 6G. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of curiosity, continuous learning, and bold reforms in shaping the future of Indian telecommunications. Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani further emphasized India's transition from being merely a consumer of technology to becoming a nation that produces telecom innovations. He asserted that the ITS has played a crucial role in this transformation, building the digital infrastructure essential for a thriving 21st-century economy. Through initiatives like Sanchar Saathi, the ITS is not only bridging the digital divide but also addressing the opportunity divide across the country.
