AI Impact Summit 2026: TCS launches 'Tata AI Sakhi', COO says 'AI can assist women, artisans in their daily work'

During the India AI Impact Summit 2026, discussions surrounding artificial intelligence spanned from foundational training initiatives to advanced computing frameworks, highlighting both societal and industrial aspects of India’s AI evolution. TCS Executive Director, President, and COO Aarthi Subramanian launched the Tata AI Sakhi Immersion Program, emphasizing that the integration of AI should be viewed as a transformation at the community level rather than merely a technological upgrade. "This summit is a platform for exploring AI's vast opportunities, but at TCS, we firmly believe that technological progress must be accompanied by community advancement," Subramanian stated. She described the TATA Sakhi program as a practical workshop rooted in Indian culture, aimed at enabling artisans, entrepreneurs, and women to harness AI for their everyday tasks and livelihoods. The program emphasizes hands-on experience over theoretical knowledge. Participants will benefit from mentorship as they delve into new product designs with AI, develop marketing materials, navigate government schemes, translate documents, and prepare applications, all utilizing their smartphones and communicating in their native languages. Subramanian expressed her hopes for the initiative to create a chain reaction of learning and empowerment. "I trust that your long travels from various regions of India to Delhi culminate in a rewarding and educational experience here today. We aspire for the insights gained here to resonate with hundreds and thousands more," she remarked. The grassroots initiative aligns with the Bharat YUVAi Hackathon, touted as India’s most extensive hackathon aimed at non-coders. Approximately 2,000 college students from diverse academic backgrounds will collaborate to create functional applications within three hours, employing multilingual, voice-driven AI tools. Participants will tackle pressing real-world challenges in fields such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and civic services, guided by AI systems that operate in Indian languages. This approach aims to eliminate barriers related to coding and language, showcasing the potential of the next generation of digital innovators. While the summit celebrated inclusivity, industry experts focused on the significant challenges associated with AI adoption, particularly in computing capacity. Currently, India possesses around 1.5 gigawatts of data center capacity, with projections indicating a rise to over 10 gigawatts by 2030. Since 2019, approximately $94 billion has been invested in the sector, driven by increasing cloud usage and AI demands. In response to this growing need, TCS introduced HyperVault, an AI-ready infrastructure platform tailored for hyperscalers and enterprises reliant on AI. These facilities are engineered for high-performance computing, utilizing liquid cooling, dense rack configurations, and energy-efficient designs, along with ensuring rapid connectivity across cloud regions. TCS aims to collaborate with AI firms and hyperscalers to enhance and optimize infrastructure, establishing a service-oriented layer for large-scale AI operations.
