Microsoft is redefining its approach to artificial intelligence by treating AI agents similarly to human employees. CEO Satya Nadella revealed that the tech giant is developing frameworks to effectively manage these agents, ensuring they have defined identities, permissions, and oversight mechanisms. In a recent conversation on the "Possible Podcast" with Reid Hoffman, Nadella emphasized the importance of creating specific policies for these AI entities. "You need to give them identities, you need to give them sandboxes, then you need to set policies to govern them," he explained. As businesses invest heavily in AI technology, the integration of these digital agents alongside human workers presents a significant challenge. Nadella shared his own experiences managing up to 100 AI coding agents simultaneously, describing the process as demanding and complex. "The cognitive load on me managing this is so high," he admitted. To assist in this endeavor, Microsoft has introduced Agent 365, a comprehensive suite of tools that includes Entra, which manages digital identities and network access, and Purview, used for labeling data generated by AI agents. Nadella concluded that prioritizing security, containment, manageability, and observability is crucial for fostering confidence in the use of these AI agents.
