Have you ever wondered how many mobile connections are registered under your name? With concerns over identity theft and fraudulent SIM cards on the rise, the Sanchar Saathi app, developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), offers a convenient solution. This user-friendly app allows you to check all SIM cards linked to your identity, providing a straightforward way to manage your mobile connections. Originally launched as a web portal in 2023 for reporting stolen phones, the platform expanded with a dedicated mobile app for both Android and iOS, officially released on January 17, 2025. The app equips users with the tools to monitor their mobile connections effectively, making it an essential resource for anyone worried about their personal information being misused. One of the standout features of the Sanchar Saathi app is its ability to track and block unauthorized SIM cards. Users can log in with an active mobile number and complete an OTP verification process. Once verified, the app reveals all SIM cards associated with the user's identification documents. If you spot any unfamiliar numbers, you can easily mark them as “Not My Number.” The DoT and telecom operators respond swiftly to take action, blocking any suspicious connections to safeguard your identity. In addition to tracking SIM cards, the app provides other useful features. Users can block lost or stolen devices through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) by entering the device's IMEI number, ensuring that it cannot be used across networks. Another feature, known as Chakshu, allows users to report any suspicious calls or messages that may indicate fraudulent activity. However, the app has not been without controversy. Recently, the DoT proposed making the Sanchar Saathi app mandatory on all newly sold smartphones in India, which stirred public concern over privacy and potential surveillance. Following considerable backlash from manufacturers and civil rights advocates, the government retracted this requirement in December 2025, confirming that the app would remain optional. Despite the initial controversy, the Sanchar Saathi app has achieved significant traction, with reports indicating over two crore downloads. It is playing a vital role in helping citizens report thousands of cyber fraud cases daily, emphasizing the importance of personal vigilance in today’s digital landscape.
