Emergent's CEO says the vibe-coding industry is still in its 'bitcoin $1' moment

Emergent's CEO, Mukund Jha, has made waves in the tech community by declaring that the vibe-coding industry is only in its infancy. Speaking to Business Insider, Jha emphasized that the sector is currently at '1% of its potential,' likening it to Bitcoin's early days when it was priced at just one dollar. According to Jha, the excitement surrounding vibe coding is palpable, and the revenue growth across the board is indicative of what’s to come. He believes the industry is on the brink of a 'massive inflection point' where the software created through vibe coding will become increasingly reliable and widely adopted. He drew a parallel to historical moments when literacy was limited to a small segment of the population, emphasizing the vast untapped market ahead. Jha believes that the vibe coding market is 'almost infinite,' as it empowers individuals to create their own tools without needing extensive technical skills. He pointed out that the market for non-technical developers vastly outweighs that of traditional developers, predicting a decline in the latter as efficiency improves. Professionals in marketing, product, and sales roles, who are more aligned with business challenges, will increasingly be able to develop their own software, he noted. Currently, there are approximately 20 million developers, but Jha estimates there are around 500 million knowledge workers who could potentially produce software, a number he anticipates will grow. Emergent itself has seen remarkable success, achieving $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) just eight months post-launch, illustrating the rapid acceleration within the AI coding space. The company saw its ARR double from $50 million to $100 million in just one month. This growth spurt follows a $70 million Series B funding round, which increased Emergent's total funding to around $100 million, supported by investors such as Khosla Ventures, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, and Google’s AI Futures Fund. Emergent is not the only player experiencing rapid growth; Swedish startup Lovable has also reported significant gains, with its ARR climbing from $300 million to $400 million in just one month. Another competitor, Cursor, announced it surpassed $1 billion in annualized revenue and is valued at nearly $30 billion.
