Emergent, an innovative AI software creation platform, has successfully secured $130 million in a Series C funding round, spearheaded by Creaegis, with notable participation from Claypond Capital and Sentinel Global. Other prominent investors, including Khosla Ventures, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Lightspeed, and Y Combinator, also contributed to this round. This latest investment elevates Emergent's valuation to $1.5 billion, a remarkable fivefold increase in just four months, cementing its status as a unicorn less than a year after its public debut. Emergent specializes in enabling founders and entrepreneurs to develop full-stack, production-ready web and mobile applications without needing extensive technical skills. Since its inception, users around the globe have leveraged the platform to create over 12 million applications, catering especially to entrepreneurs and small business owners lacking technical backgrounds. In a conversation with Business Today, Mukund Jha, co-founder and CEO of Emergent, shared that this new influx of capital will be instrumental in enhancing the company's products and broadening its global footprint. "The funds will be allocated towards talent acquisition, advancing our AI capabilities, accelerating our global outreach, and fortifying our AI infrastructure and production data systems, ultimately enhancing every application created on Emergent," Jha stated. He emphasized the long-term goal of positioning Emergent as the essential operating system for small businesses. Discussing the factors contributing to Emergent's swift valuation increase, Jha noted a significant surge in both user engagement and revenue over the past six months, with the company experiencing nearly a fourfold growth in these areas. He pointed out improvements in critical business metrics, such as customer acquisition costs, gross margins, and retention rates. "More importantly, our customers are developing increasingly sophisticated, production-grade applications that are vital to their operations. Investors are recognizing that AI-driven software creation is emerging as one of the largest technology sectors worldwide, and Emergent is strategically poised to lead this transition," he explained. Jha highlighted that out of the 12 million applications built on the platform, hundreds of thousands are currently operational. In response to the rising competition from various AI coding agents and software development platforms, he asserted that Emergent's unique advantage lies in the production data generated by applications created on its platform. "Each application produces real-world data about business structures, operational failures, and optimization strategies, creating a powerful data flywheel that enhances the platform for all future users," he noted. Beyond simply assisting customers in software development, Jha conveyed that Emergent's ambition extends to becoming the foundational operating system for small and medium enterprises. "As clients construct their software, data, workflows, and AI agents on Emergent, we aim to increasingly automate and streamline their business operations," Jha added.
