In a bold legal move, Elon Musk’s xAI and its platform X have initiated a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, accusing them of colluding to undermine competition in the tech industry. The lawsuit claims that Apple, in an effort to maintain its dominance in the smartphone market, has partnered with OpenAI, which is described as a monopolistic entity in the generative AI chatbot sector. The legal action highlights Musk’s ongoing conflicts with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Musk, who was once a co-founder and co-chair of OpenAI, has previously attempted to block the organization’s transformation into a for-profit entity. Additionally, he proposed a substantial bid of $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI, which was ultimately declined. Musk has made assertions on X regarding the anticompetitive nature of the Apple-OpenAI collaboration, stating that it creates an environment where no other AI firm can achieve top rankings in the App Store. This partnership, revealed last June, is set to introduce features by December. As of now, neither Apple nor OpenAI has responded to the lawsuit or Musk's allegations.
