Elon Musk is intensifying Tesla's focus on AI chip development, and he is personally leading the charge. The CEO has made it clear that he is actively involved in the design processes, holding bi-weekly meetings with engineers to drive innovation. In a recent post on X, Musk invited potential candidates to apply for positions within Tesla's AI chip engineering team, urging them to showcase their exceptional skills in three bullet points. Musk's vision includes a groundbreaking goal: releasing a new AI chip design for mass production every year. He expressed confidence in Tesla's potential to manufacture chips at a scale surpassing all other AI chip producers combined. Currently, Tesla's vehicles utilize the AI4 chip, with the AI5 nearing completion and development on the AI6 already underway. Musk believes that these advancements will have a significant positive impact on society, enhancing safety in driving and expanding access to medical care through Tesla's humanoid robot project, Optimus. To support this ambitious initiative, Tesla is actively recruiting in Palo Alto, California, looking for experienced engineers in roles such as physical design and signal integrity. The physical design engineer position demands over a decade of experience in integrated circuit design, with salaries ranging from approximately $152,000 to $264,000, including potential stock options and benefits. Meanwhile, the signal and power integrity engineer role focuses on the validation and testing of next-generation AI chips, offering compensation between $120,000 and $318,000 annually. Musk emphasized his hands-on approach, stating that he meets with the engineering team every Tuesday and Saturday. He anticipates that the Saturday meetings will become unnecessary in a few months as the design for AI5 is finalized. This level of involvement is nothing new for Musk, who has a history of immersing himself in the operations of his companies. He previously announced plans to oversee the new Samsung chip manufacturing facility in Texas, set to commence operations in 2026. Musk's commitment to innovation and progress remains unwavering, as he continues to push the boundaries of technology at Tesla.
