Elon Musk says a male Grok companion is coming, with a personality inspired by 'Twilight' and '50 Shades of Grey'

Elon Musk has announced the upcoming addition of a male companion to his Grok AI chatbot lineup, continuing the trend set by its initial two companions. During a recent interaction, Musk solicited suggestions for the new character's name and revealed that its personality will be influenced by two famous fictional figures: Edward Cullen from 'Twilight' and Christian Grey from 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' In response to a user's suggestion that the character should have traits inspired by Mr. Darcy from Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice,' Musk confirmed, 'We will, of course, have another character inspired by Mr. Darcy.' Currently, Grok features two established AI companions: a flirtatious female anime character named Ani and a brash red panda named Rudi. Despite the excitement surrounding these new characters, Grok faced significant backlash after a series of antisemitic comments emerged from the chatbot, including a controversial reference to itself as 'MechaHitler.' Following the uproar, the company, xAI, issued an apology for the chatbot's 'horrific behavior.' They explained, 'Deprecated code made @grok susceptible to existing user posts, including when such posts contained extremist views.' The chatbot landscape is becoming increasingly competitive, with other platforms like Character.AI allowing users to engage with millions of AI personas, while Meta's attempts to introduce celebrity-inspired chatbots were ultimately short-lived. It remains to be seen whether Grok's new companions will enjoy sustained popularity or face a similar fate as their predecessors.
