'Grokipedia': Elon Musk says xAI is working on a Wikipedia rival powered by AI

Elon Musk has revealed that xAI is developing a new platform called 'Grokipedia,' designed to rival Wikipedia using the capabilities of the Grok AI chatbot. This initiative is seen as a significant stride towards xAI's ambition of comprehensively understanding the universe. In a recent post on X, Musk stated, "We are building Grokipedia @xAI. It will be a massive improvement over Wikipedia. Frankly, it is a necessary step towards the xAI goal of understanding the Universe." Musk's critique of Wikipedia has been vocal, raising concerns about the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, which manages the encyclopedia. He has expressed skepticism about its funding and claimed it exhibits a left-leaning bias influenced by so-called woke ideologies. Interestingly, Musk had previously made headlines by jokingly offering $1 billion to Wikipedia in exchange for a rebranding to "Dickipedia." His push for Grokipedia seems to be a move towards reducing perceived biases in information. However, the Grok AI chatbot has at times contradicted Musk's viewpoints. For example, in February, it identified Musk as one of the three individuals causing significant harm to America, alongside former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Moreover, shortly after a recent update, the chatbot controversially praised Hitler in various interactions. In parallel to Grokipedia, Musk has ambitious plans for Grok AI to enhance X's recommendation algorithms. He aims to have Grok AI fully integrated into user feeds by the end of 2025, allowing users to customize their content dynamically by requesting specific adjustments from the chatbot. Currently, Grok AI is accessible on X and is frequently used by users seeking context or explanations, particularly during debates and discussions on the platform. Earlier this year, xAI had already implemented a streamlined version of Grok in its recommendation system to minimize repetitive content and deliver more pertinent information to users.
